An all-electric Ford Transit is on its way. This best-selling cargo van will become available for the U.S. and Canada for the 2022 model year. The vehicle will include technology solutions such as in-vehicle high-speed data architecture and cloud-based services with new ways to optimize fleet performance. It is built in the U.S. and will provide customers with a variety of configurations options, including cutaway, cargo van, chassis cab, three roof heights, and three body lengths. This all-electric vehicle is part of Ford’s more than $11.5 billion investment in electrification through 2022.

Smart Technology

Smart technology helps optimize fleet efficiency, reduce waste, and improve driver behavior by providing insights into operator performance. Insightful data can be collected through Ford Telematics™ using an embedded FordPass Connect™ modem complete with a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot with connectivity for up to 10 devices. Live map GPS tracking, geofencing, and vehicle diagnostics can be used by managers to view performance indicators for both vehicle and driver. The all-electric Ford Transit will include standard Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking plus Pedestrian Detection, Forward Collision Warning, Post-Collision Braking, Lane-Keeping System and auto high-beam headlamps.

The Ford Transit comes with a variety of chassis options, including cargo van, cutaway, and chassis cab, as well as three body lengths and three roof heights. Customers will have access to Ford’s charging network, which is North America’s largest public charging network, and over 730 commercial vehicle centers across the U.S. and Canada.

All-Electric Benefits

The obvious benefit of an all-electric vehicle is that drivers no longer have to spend time and money at the gas station from week to week. Customers may also reap the benefits of requiring less scheduled maintenance and lower operating costs. These vehicles may also benefit from federal, state, and local electric vehicle tax incentives as well as access to high-occupancy vehicle lanes and free parking. Electric vehicles are also able to operate indoors, in environments with limited ventilation, and at night in areas with restrictive noise ordinances, unlike vehicles with internal combustion engines.
